Position Location: Shreveport, LA

DURATION - Approximately 28 weeks.

The Safety Representative (SR) represents Client as responsible on-site manager for implementation of and adherence to the Client safety program. The SR may lead or be part of a site or project safety team.

Typical duties normally associated with this position include, but are not necessarily limited to:

1. Supervise members of the Client Project Safety Team on the site

2. Assist PM and CM with establishing and enforcing safety standards

3. Ensure that Client safety policies, standards, and procedures are implemented and followed

4. Monitor/manage Client safety program

5. Participate in project safety reviews, analyses, auditing and risk mitigation

6. Perform other safety-related duties that may arise from time to time.

7. The SR shall be:

a. Capable of knowing and conveying acceptable safety behaviors

b. Capable of recognizing and mitigating unacceptable safety conditions

c. Capable of contacting first responder personnel

d. Capable of presenting safety topics before a large crowd

e. Capable of leading construction safety audits

f. Capable of leading Safety GEMBAs

g. Capable of developing a rapport with workers

h. Capable of delivering safety training

8. Reporting

a. Generation of Weekly Project Status Report to include:

i. Construction Safety Audits performed

ii. Safety Audit findings

iii. Safety finding trend report

iv. Incident/Injury report

v. Assist with Schedule Progress evaluation

b. Generation of Monthly Project Status report

i. Includes monthly Incident/Injury/Near Miss data

ii. Data Segregated by Supplier / Contract / Project

9. Meetings

a. Attend/conduct a Monthly Status Meeting with Leadership/Stakeholders

b. Attend/conduct Weekly Contract Status Meetings with each supplier

c. Attend/conduct Weekly Site Coordination Meetings with all suppliers active on the site

i. Discuss site safety issues

ii. Review safety related topics observed during Construction Safety Audits

d. Attend/conduct weekly meeting with Discipline Coordinators to review safety status and address issues/constraints

  • Seven (7) years of experience in the engineering and industrial construction industry as a safety representative for industrial type projects.
  • Should have an engineering knowledge across multiple disciplines with emphasis on discipline interfaces and information flow.
  • Excellent working knowledge of OSHA standards / procedures to support construction projects and behavior based safety acumen.
  • Strong leadership presence, motivational skills, and customer service oriented.
  • Capable of leading and communicating with the construction management team and project engineering team to ensure complete understanding and fulfillment of project objectives.
  • Refinery, petrochemical, or chemical industry experience is required.

Must have construction field experience working knowledge across multiple disciplines with emphasis on discipline interfaces and information flow.

Must have demonstrated leadership capability on projects.

Excellent communication skills with construction team and client management.

Excellent problem solving and decision making skills.

Must be able to make decisions that must be made, however unpopular.

Works well with client personnel.

Conduct field trips as necessary to gather operating data and equipment information required to develop the project scope. This requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.

All candidates must pass background checks, drug screening, qualify for issuance of TWIC credentials, and pass client site specific safety training requirements.
