Sulfur Removal

FORD BACON & DAVIS has had considerable experience in design, engineering and construction of all commercially popular amines including MEA, DEA, TEA, MDEA, and DGA. Diglycolamine (DGA) has a unique set of properties that lends to applications requiring some removal of COS. The bulk of these applications are related to the sweetening of light liquid hydrocarbons. FB&D's design experience with this material has been primarily with liquid contractors.

We have also been associated with the units at Texaco's Convent, Louisiana and Anacortes, Washngton refineries which use DGA. In both of those refineries, FB&D designed the downstream sulfur recovery units and worked with Texaco in the feed gas preparation for the DGA units for suitability with the sulfur recovery units.

Another application where we have applied DGA is in the Malaprop technology. This DGA based light hydrocarbon liquid sweetening system has received considerable industry attention in the recent past. FB&D used this technology in the desgn of sweetening units for Exxon and Pacific Offshore Pipeline Company, both at Las Flores Canyon, California.

Following are descriptions of FB&D's Amine Treating and Sour Water Stripping capabilities:

Amine Treating

FB&D has the capability to custom design amine treating systems used in refineries for fuel gas and liquid sweetening. Each amine treating system is tailored to meet the specific needs of the client. We provide conventional amine solvents such as MEA or DEA, or selective amines such as MDEA. Where applicable, other acid gas treating units such as Selexol, Sulfinol and Benfield are available.

Sour Water Stripping

We have designed and built many plants that incorporate sour water strippers to remove hydrogen sulfide and ammonia from waste water, rendering it suitable for discharge. Processing of the off-gas from the sour water stripper is completed in the sulfur recovery unit, but care must be exercised in order to eliminate problems associated with processing a stream which contains both ammonia and hydrogen sulfide. Our years of experience in design of both sour water strippers and sulfur recovery units assure an integrated facility that provides trouble free operation.
