April YPO Meeting - Monday, April 30, 2018

The Ford, Bacon & Davis’ Young Professionals Organization (YPO) held its monthly meeting on April 18, 2018, in the training room of the Baton Rouge Lakeland office.

Lee Harris, Manager of Projects, presented "The Art of Teamwork”, in adherence to the new "Breaking Down Silos” program the company instituted this year. "Breaking Down Silos” is designed to facilitate communication between engineering disciplines to gain understanding of the responsibilities, and technical know-how, of each group.

As Manager of Projects, Lee is responsible for all engineering disciplines working together in one of FB&D’s large task forces, toward a common goal – the successful execution of project.

"The Art of teamwork begins with the desire to succeed, and is enabled by understanding that it takes a team to do it,” exclaimed Lee.

He then defined the word "team”, and opened a discussion of how to know if a team is really a team. He showed a graphic that said "We are not a team because we work together. We are a team because we respect, trust and care for each other.”

He continued, "Each role of a team varies, but every player understands and does their part. Each individual relies on all other team members to do their part.”

Lee stated that teamwork removes the silos. "We are all playing to win,” he said.

YPO Host, Jared Altazan, PE, Mechanical Engineer/India Coordinator with guest speaker, Lee Harris, Manager of Projects.
